Big Bright Lights Guide To Setting Up Search Tools For Hubspot Webmasters

Setting Up Google Search Console

🛸  Verify Ownership of Your Website 🛸

  • Go to Google Search Console and sign in with your Google account.
  • Click on 'Add property' and enter your website’s URL exactly as it appears in the browser.
  • You will be prompted to verify ownership of your website. Since you are using HubSpot, the easiest method might be using the DNS verification option. Google will provide a TXT record to add to your domain’s DNS configuration.

🛸 Add the TXT Record in HubSpot

  • In your HubSpot account, navigate to ‘Settings’ > ‘Domains & URLs’.
  • Click on the domain you want to verify and go to the ‘DNS records’ tab.
  • Add the TXT record provided by Google and save the changes.
  • Go back to Google Search Console and click ‘Verify’. It might take some time for DNS changes to propagate, so it may not verify immediately.

    🛸 Submit Your Sitemap

  • HubSpot automatically generates a sitemap for your site. You can find your sitemap at http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml.
  • In Google Search Console, select your property, go to ‘Sitemaps’ under ‘Index’, and submit your sitemap URL.

Setting Up Bing Webmaster Tools

🛸 Verify Your Site 🛸

  • Go to Bing Webmaster Tools and sign in or create an account.
  • Add your site and choose the option to verify ownership. You can use the same DNS method as with Google, where you add a TXT record to your domain’s DNS settings in HubSpot.

 🛸 Submit Your Sitemap🛸

  • Just like with Google, submit your sitemap.xml in the Bing Webmaster dashboard under ‘Sitemaps’.

🛸 Additional Tips 🛸

Robots.txt: Ensure your HubSpot site’s robots.txt file is optimized to allow search engines to crawl your site. You can edit this in HubSpot under ‘Settings’ > ‘Website’ > ‘Pages’.

SEO Optimization: Use HubSpot’s built-in SEO tools to optimize your pages. Focus on using relevant keywords, optimizing your meta descriptions, and ensuring your content is of high quality and value.

Mobile Optimization: Make sure your website is mobile-friendly. HubSpot typically handles this well, but always check the mobile appearance and usability.

Page Speed: Utilize tools like Google PageSpeed Insights to check your site's performance and make necessary adjustments.

Monitoring: Regularly check Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools for insights into how your site is performing, any crawl errors, and opportunities for improvement.

By following these steps and consistently monitoring and optimizing your site, you’ll enhance your website’s visibility and ranking on search engines.
